A group of Year 9, 10, 12 & 13 students went with Mr Bridge to the National Sheep Association Regional Winter Gathering to compete in the Regional Schools Shepherding Competition on 26 January. They were competing against several schools from across the Peak District, mainly against students involved in the Derbyshire Agricultural and Rural Training Programme.

The students had to carry out a variety of practical tasks on sheep, including trimming their feet, administering oral wormers and dagging (trimming the wool around their tail and crutch). The teams also had to then assess the condition score (how fat or not) each sheep was.
As well as practical assessment, the students were also quizzed by the judges about why there were carrying the tasks, to ensure they understood the theory behind the practice.
All the students performed really well and both finished really high in the rankings.
Shannon Watmough, Jasmine Yeomans, Millie Manners and Nathan Millington came second overall, which is a fantastic achievement as they were the youngest team in the competition.
Adam Wright, Minnie Burges Lumsden, Toby Bushell and Honor Halket came fourth overall, in a really close contest, only 10 points behind the winners.
