Uttoxeter JNFU Club Report 2005-06

Yet again Uttoxeter JNFU have had another fantastic year, Annmarie Salt became Chairman and Jen Brown took on the role of Secretary. Our first competition was the Carcase Judging at Sargeantís, with a full team entered we took 3rd place as an overall team. Paul Sargeant took 1st place in the Beef Competition. Towards the end of the month saw the New Members Evening arrive with great success in building up club members, we even had an old member from Somerset (Josh) signing up and a couple of Welsh boys from JCB.

Hockey was our first sports event with us entering a strong team who battled to the final against Leek. I think this would have been the longest final in history if we hadnít gone to a penalty shoot out after two sets of extra time. Leek were the victors beating us 5-1 on penalties but this didnít damper our spirits as the next games were Male Basketball and Female Netball with the lads finishing 2nd.

November we visited the Ski and Tobogganing Centre at Tamworth, also our Go Karting team took 2nd place at County. The County AGM arrived again with Simon Harrison (or should we say his mum) picking up the Manifold Marketing Award for selling the most tickets. Well done H.

December was a busy month with the making of Christmas wreaths to sell at the Uttoxeter Cracker Night, which raised £140 for Charity. The Annual Buffet soon approached with a lively speech made by Michael Shelley and the Member of the Year Trophy, (The Sarah Talbot Cup) was awarded to Rob Brown. Then the club Carol Singing when all members were in fine voice (I think), which resulted in us raising £200.

The main event of the calendar was the Race Night to be held at Bramshall, when it was time to start the races the electricity decided to blow the light bulbs in the projector, which meant no races. The quick thinking of members turned the night from horse to pig races much fun was had, which led to a massive £680 being raised for charity.

Fence Erecting and the Darts Semi Finals were held in March with Michael Statham taking 1st place at the Clay Pigeon Shoot and the juniors of the club taking 2nd place at the Kwik Cricket. Again we had a very successful Stockjudging team at the Stockman of the Year competition with Tom Statham taking 1st place and Andy Whitehurst 2nd. The Dairy Stockjudging was held on home soil at Hurst Farm, Bramshall by kind permission of the Whitehurst family and Uttoxeter took 4th place overall.

May came with many members descending on Blackpool for the AGM with a good time had by all and many stories never to be told again. At the County Rally we won the Junior Cup and we came 2nd in the Associate Cup, this was mainly down to Joey Cawser who entered most competitions. Well done Joey. The Tug of War team battled hard against Chase and came out on top to retain the Tug of War Tray.

Then came the County Show week the Tug of War teams were out in force, with the lads on their continued success winning 1st place after beating Stone and the girls taking up 2nd. The float, Alice in Wonderland was ready, and she was being pulled by a tractor on loan from Mitchellís and wiped the board at the show by taking Best Float and Best Name Board. Well done.

June and July saw the Tug of War team taking 2nd place at the Three Counties Show and great success for Josh Ralf and Tom Statham who represented Staffordshire at the 4x4 Livestock Box Challenge and now go to the National to represent the West Midland Area in October.

We had farm walks around Nick Brandonís goat farm, Baggots Park and JCB. The year came to an end with Uttoxeter hosting a Summer Social in July, with games, Hog Roast, Tug of War and a Disco. Many thanks to the Atkin Family for hosting this event which raised £1000 for club funds. To cool things down in the hot summer the Raft Race was looked forward to with 7 teams entering from Uttoxeter and the top one finishing 5th.

A big thank you goes out to all members for all your hard work and effort throughout the year and to every one who has helped or sponsored Uttoxeter JNFU during the year because without you there wouldnít be a club.
