Well what a year we have had, we started out in a very busy October by coming second in the rugby competition in a joint effort with Waterhouses. We also achieved great success at the carcase judging competition in which we were placed first. We were then all off to the Kings Hall for the annual Autumn Ball. The new members evening held in October resulted in several membership enquiry’s and a few new members to boost our numbers. November came and went with a win in the county Go-Karting competition at Fast Lane.
December once again proved to be a busy time with competitions and lots of partying. Uttoxeter members Paul Sargeant, Andrew Whitehurst and Robert Atkin represented Staffordshire at the Primestock Show at Stafford and the Smithfield Show in London in stock and carcase judging. Members past and present enjoyed the Annual Buffet held at Bramshall Village Hall, where we were host to county executives and club guests. The Member of the Year Trophy, the Sarah Talbot Cup was awarded to Annmarie Salt for all her hard work over the last year. Some thirty members were in good voice braving the winter weather when they went carol singing around several local farms helping to raise £350 for the Air Ambulance.
January was brought in with style at the New Year Ball, followed by a club trip to Telford for Ice Skating.
Spring came to pass with second places in the Clay Pigeon shoot and in the Darts competition. Fun was had by all at several more competitions, the Spring Ball and club activities at the golf driving range, a scavenger hunt and games evening.
The highlight of the year came in April with the Uttoxeter JNFU 75th Anniversary Dinner Dance. 380 people packed out the Showground to celebrate the clubs continued success. Amongst the guests was Mr Robert Ball, the oldest surviving chairman of Uttoxeter JNFU and many other members past and present. After the high spirits and fun of the anniversary, the hard work started again with Float Building.
In May, a successful stock judging competition, with Andrew Whitehurst being named the Senior Stock Judge of the year. Bags were packed for THE weekend in Torquay at the National AGM. The annual club quiz was held at Bramshall village hall, raising £100 for the Air Ambulance.
All this bought us round to the fierce competition of the County Rally. Competition wins occurred in Aerobics, Book of the Year Cover, Christmas Card, churn rolling, longest continuous apple peel!, tying a bow tie and mixed tug-of-war.
With the new tug-of-war shirts sponsored by Chris Wheawall the lads team continued their success at the County show with a win, also by a third for the ladies. This then put the lads forward to the West Midlands Area final at the Three Counties Show, Malvern. On the swelteringly hot day the lads managed a third position.
Many TOW competitions followed as did many more discos and the Summer Ball. Uttoxeter entered into the spirit of things at the raft race with seven teams, all thoroughly enjoying the cold wet evening. The year was finished with a farm walk around the JCB estate, a treasure hunt and a club social with Chase YFC.
Thanks go to the committee for all the hard work and effort for a fantastic year. Also a big thank you to every one who has helped or sponsored the club during the year.
