Uttoxeter has had a great year. We have continued to grow, perhaps not in numbers but definitely in character. We began the Young Farmers year with Richard, Sarah and Annmarie on the top table. To start the ball rolling we held a new members evening in October and had much fun. In November we went bowling and also held a joint ‘Cowboy and Indians’ disco with Stone at the Highwayman. We had our Annual Buffet at Bramshall Village Hall; it was an unforgettable night to say the least, especially with Charles’ dancing!
December brought the joy of Carol Singing to the club where our members bravely faced their local pubs to raise money for charity. Sarah Weston and Laura Smith represented the club at the Club Officers Weekend away in Malvern; it was an excellent weekend where many friends were made. Uttoxeter welcomed the New Year in with a trip to Telford Ice Rink that was fun, once we actually found the place!
Along came February and it was time for the darts competition. March soon came and Paintball was on the agenda. Annmarie came home with a few bruises, no thanks to Richard Weston and Ben Salt though.
We held our Charity Quiz in April and with the village hall full, we had a successful night. We soon began to look to the future and think about the floats; somehow we found a use for that old molasses tank yet again! Many thanks to Atkin Farms for hosting the Float building.
In April we represented the County for the West Midlands Area 5 a side ladies football where we won which meant representing the West Midlands at the finals in Torquay.
At the beginning of May we made our way down to Torquay for the National AGM and what a weekend it was! On the Saturday we followed our female football geniuses to the Sports Arena. We didn’t win the football but were definitely the loudest supporters there! At the County Rally we came first in the bookcase competition and the seaside exhibit, third in the round bale competition and a very proud last in the girls ski race!
At the County Show we picked up third place for our club display and second in the tug of war competition as we made a joint team with Leek.
In June we hosted the Canadian exchange Amy-Lee who we took to Alton Towers. We also entered 4 rafts in the raft race, however only 3 crossed the finish line in one piece. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Brookes for hosting the raft building.
Uttoxeter would like to say a big thank you to all its members, the County Officers and the Advisory Committee for giving so much of your time to the club.
