September started with a new members evening where Ashley had a great intake of new members- so we hit the ground running!
Early October saw the club out in their glad rags for the Autumn Ball at the Kings Hall followed by mixed hockey the following day.
In November we attended the AGM where Ashley received the WHD Hobson cup due to our 118% increase in membership. Also Louise and d Johns hard work was rewarded with a merit award for the most outstanding contribution to Young Farmers, Louise also won runner-up chairman.
In the beginning of December we entered the county pool competition at Hot shots. Ending the year with are Christmas meal at the Chetwode Arms where 68 past and present members turned up helping the club to raise £200 for Madeley first responders.
The start of the New Year saw Ashley put on their rubber gloves and pinny to clean the county offices. At the end of January myself, Leni Rob and Karina represented the club at the badminton competition with Leni and Rob qualifying to represent Staffordshire at the West midlands area competition.
February saw Louise coming third in ‘senior member of the year’ and Karina also coming third in ‘junior member of the year.’
March saw Ashley enter a team into the fence erecting competition, while later on in the month the club went off on a tour of HST feeds in Crewe.
It was soon April a busy month for the club preparing for the rally and the start of float building and at the end of April nine of are members packed their buckets and spades and head of to Torquay for a sunny weekend.
May was an exciting month for the club with the success we had at the rally, coming joint first to win the overall rally cup and also winning the junior rally come and the most improved club shield. Also in May the club hosted an Australian exchange, Kylie Burns.
July an August were two bust months for the club, as most July was spent cleaning out the shed for our western disco complete with bucking bronco. The disco was a great success with about 350 people attending on the night.
August again saw the club busy preparing for the 50th Anniversary dinner dance which took place at Snape hall farm by kind permission of Chris and Brenda Slater, we couldn’t of asked for better weather for the event where 300 guests attended and everyone joined in to celebrate 50 years of Ashley YFC and had a good time doing so. August also saw several of are members attending the county raft race.
I would just like to thank all our members for their contributions to the club over the past 12 months. Thanks to Kate and John for all their hard work this year in helping me run the club. I hope you’ve enjoyed your year because I’ve enjoyed mine!
